The Technology Collaborative announces FY2009 job gains
Robotic and digital technologies drive economic development
Pittsburgh, PA – December 2, 2009 – The Technology Collaborative (TTC), a statewide economic development organization that supports the growth of Pennsylvania’s world-class robotics and digital technologies industries, announced today that during its fiscal year 2009, early-stage digital and robotics companies created 335 new jobs and lost 215 for a net gain of 120 new positions created and filled. The total number of digital and robotics-related jobs created since 2000 is now 2,631 with net job creation at 1,526.
“The 2009 job data reflects a slower, but continued growth of early-stage companies with high-paying jobs throughout the Commonwealth,” commented David Ruppersberger, President and CEO of The Technology Collaborative. “Despite a higher unemployment rate in Pennsylvania this past year, the region has been able to maintain its position as a global leader in growing robotic and digital companies. Ruppersberger further stated that “TTC’s Tech Commercialization Initiative, incubator and business services, talent recruiting, education and training programs are ongoing in support of its member organizations and TTC is committed to delivering programs that enable company formation and job creation.”
TTC also announced the formation and attraction of 8 start-up companies in FY2009. This brings the total number of companies started or attracted to the region to 63.
About The Technology Collaborative
The Technology Collaborative (TTC) is a not-for-profit, member-driven, technology-based economic development organization focused on starting, attracting, and growing robotics, cyber-security and digital technology companies. Funding from federal, state, foundation, and member organizations supports our various programs to develop and commercialize technology, subsidize education and training, recruit world-class talent, incubate and mentor early-stage companies, and facilitate networking. TTC works with other regional economic development organizations to implement an end-to-end strategy for transitioning technology from the Commonwealth’s universities into commercial products that are designed, engineered, produced, marketed and sold by companies based in Pennsylvania.
